Chanoyu
Chanoyu is a traditional Japanese culture and art that has existed for more than 400 years, and was developed by Sen no Rikyu. There is a phrase, “a mountain residence in the midst of the city”. It is said to express Sen no Rikyu's awareness, meaning a place where one can feel the tranquility of a mountain residence while being in the midst of the hustle and bustle of reality and people. In this day and age in which we live, there are so many things happening in the world. Each of us needs time to face ourselves and spend time in silence. The tearoom is truly a “mountain residence in the city”.
Workshop
The content of this workshop is that after listening to a talk about chanoyu in the tearoom,
participants will enjoy confectionery and matcha and then everyone will be invited to make your own matcha.
Participants will be asked to sit on the tatami mats either in seiza(sitting straight)or sideways. Please bring white socks.
This workshop is designed for complete beginners.
However, everything is authentic, including the tea room and utensils.
The teacher is a person who studied the chanoyu in Kyoto.
